Discrete, portable heat therapy for period pain
Period pain management has long been stuck in the past. Those experiencing menstrual discomfort have had to choose between cumbersome hot water bottles, messy microwaved heat packs, or single-use adhesive patches that create unnecessary waste. None of these options offer the combination of effectiveness, discretion, and sustainability that modern users need.
Scarlet identified an opportunity to transform this space with rae - an innovative wearable heat therapy device designed for comfort, dignity, and everyday practicality.
THE APPROACH
—
Providing performance, comfort and dignity
Trike supported Scarlet and Xentronics in an 18-month collaboration. We navigated the regulatory landscape for medical devices, conducted user research with people experiencing menstrual pain, and explored form factors to optimize comfort and wearability.
Our work encompassed product UI/UX design for intuitive interaction, CMF development for premium aesthetics, and DFM optimization to ensure manufacturability. Working alongside Xentronics’ technology development, we helped transform user insights into a viable, production-ready product that balances therapeutic effectiveness with everyday practicality.
THE IMPACT
—
Improving the
lives of many
Rae delivers discreet, heat therapy that allows users to move freely through their day. The design earned top honors in the consumer electronics category at the Australian Good Design Awards. Beyond recognition, Rae provides genuine relief - users report greater mobility, increased confidence, and meaningful comfort. Thoughtful design solving real challenges in menstrual care.
