Flagship for safety
and comfort
Maxi-Cosi is Australia’s #1 rated car seat brand and a subsidiary of Europe’s leading car seat maker - Dorel.
Maxi-Cosi develops their car seats locally here in Melbourne, with Australian engineers, designers, and customer support. This allows them to tailor their products to the needs of Australian families.
Trike worked closely with Maxi-Cosi’s team to develop their next generation flagship seat - Pria. This work began with understanding the real needs of the customer, worked through design concepting and complex engineering, before supporting the design through production transfer.
“The Maxi-Cosi Pria has surpassed all sales projections and transformed consumer expectations. Through customer-focused design, we are reaching more customers, delivering on innovation, improving ease of use, and enhancing passenger safety.”

CONCEPT DESIGN
—
Concept vision
The concept vision for Pria was to tell the complex story of features and safety in a clean integrated form that is compact enough to fit 3 across the back seat of a car.
We needed to convey the inner softness and comfort that the product provides to the child, with soft forms and clean curves. This was to be encapsulated in a strong outer form that conveyed the seats outer strength and safety shell.
The form needed to speak to the Maxi-Cosi brand with reference to their existing visual language, key brand touch points and colour palette. It needs to visually communicate the internal crash technologies plus provide the many instructions to the user and mandated by the safety standards.
ITERATIVE PROTOTYPING
—
Refinement
through process
Trike loves prototypes, & the value they add in improving designs.
Through the development of Pria, prototypes were used at many key points to validate design decisions and get feedback from key stakeholders - engineers, soft goods designer, senior management, sales teams, professional installers, patents and children.
Development included foam form prototypes, multiple sub-system prototypes & late stage high quality, soft good finished prototypes.

Product IP
The convertible car seat market is highly competitive, with each brand searching for an edge and needing to constantly improve.
Pria integrates Maxi-Cosi’s world class safety technology - with G-Cell® for the child’s body and AirProtect® for the head. To find new innovation - Tricycle focused on key customer pain points.
These innovations offer Maxi-Cosi a double benefit - improving the value of the product to customers, while allowing them to defend themselves against competitors trying to mimic their design.
STANDARDS & COMPLIANCE
—
Safety as standard
Pria is built for safety, and features Max-Cosi’s trusted AirProtect® and G-Cell® technologies. It has passed rigorous engineering and crash simulation testing to meet all relevant Australia and New Zealand safety standards, including AS/NZS 1754:2013.
To achieve this world class level of safety, Pria is constructed from engineering polymers, with injection moulding for structure and key metal components for strength. The breathable, durable internal fabrics can withstand daily use by children, providing a high-quality product experience for years.
